The telegram that drove Hitler to suicide, recently sold for $55,000 (Article)

“My Fuhrer: General Koller today gave me a briefing on the basis of communications given to him by Colonel General Jodl and General Christian, according to which you had referred certain decisions to me and emphasized that I, in case negotiations would become necessary, would be in an easier position than you in Berlin. These views were so surprising and serious to me that I felt obligated to assume, in case by 2200 o’clock no answer is forthcoming, that you have lost your freedom of action. I shall then view the conditions of your decree as fulfilled and take action for the well being of Nation and Fatherland. You know what I feel for you in these most difficult hours of my life and I cannot express this in words. God protect you and allow you despite everything to come here as soon as possible. A lego compatible prosthetic arm allows for kids to build their own attachments (article)

Hoping to build the confidence of children living with a missing limb, Carlos Arturo Torres Tovar, of Umeå University in Sweden, has designed a prosthetic arm that’s compatible with Lego so kids can swap its gripping attachment for their own custom creations. The arm functions very similar to traditional prosthetics, but it features a twist-and-lock modular design that’s easy for kids to assemble. And with a special motorized adapter, its standard three finger gripper can be swapped out for one made entirely of Lego. By essentially turning the prosthetic into one of their toys, Carlos hopes his IKO arm will empower children by improving their every day lives.

4.) Handsome Dan: When Dan was first rescued, he was very skittish and fearful. Now, he is warm and trusting. He even acts as a perfectly behaved babysitter for his human baby sister, who arrived in 2010. Not many people realize how loving pit bulls can be.

In 2007, a group of dogs were saved from organized torture in NFL player Michael Vick’s backyard. His dog fighting ring was liberated and he was put in jail. Many people believed that the dogs found at his house weren’t fit to live in homes, because of their killer instincts. That just isn’t true, and the Best Friends Animal Society agreed. They took in 22 dogs, which became known as “Vicktory Dogs.” They were saved from that horrible place… and found loving, amazing homes. Here are their stories.

Many people believed the dogs were too 'damaged' to find proper homes.

1.) Cherry used to fight, but now he attends events and helps other abused animals rehabilitate. He was on “Dogtown” and transformed from a tough dog into a lover, friends with everyone he meets.

2.) Georgia: This dog surprised her new mom, Amy, when she brought her into the home. Amy didn’t know just how quickly Georgia would adapt to a loving, domesticated life. Georgia passed away in 2013.

3.) Halle: No one should give up on rescued dogs just because of their past. Halle now lives with two dog brothers and constantly plays with them. She wags her tail, frolics and “play fights” – all without incident. She is truly a lovely dog.

4.) Handsome Dan was adopted by a family who now has a little girl. While skittish at first, Handsome Dan has learned to trust humans again and it a fantastic family member. Amazingly, he has a Facebook fan page with over 400,000 fans!

5.) Little Red: For 5 years, Little Red was used as a “bait dog.” “Bait” animals are used to test a dog’s fighting skills, and are frequently mauled in the process. Once Red was rescued, it took her a while to recover… and now she is blissfully happy.

6.) Oliver: When this dog was brought home, he had no fear. He was so willing to let his new family love him, even though in his original evaluation it was said that he was very fearful of people. Oliver would jump on his mom Erika’s lap and shower her with kisses.

8.) Mel: Mel’s new dad, Richard Hunter, was a radio show host in Dallas back in 2007. He reported on the dog fighting ring and eventually became emotionally attached to the animals. When he had an opportunity to adopt one of the animals, he jumped at the chance and went to the Best Friends sanctuary in Utah. Now, Mel and Richard live happily together.

10 Answers To Questions You Always Wondered About

answers to questions

What makes the AK-47 one of the most reliable guns in the world? Why can’t other companies replicate this reliability?

The tolerances(spaces between moving parts) in the AK are loose. There’s lots of room for gunk and dirt to get in there and the gun will still fire and cycle when the trigger is pulled. With loose tolerances, failure to properly clean and lube the weapon won’t hinder it from firing like the M-16 from the Vietnam era.

In addition the AK uses a gas piston technology rather than direct impingement. Both systems use the gas from the recently fired round to load the next round. With the AK the gas is directed to a piston rather than directly at the bolt carrier. This keeps the bolt cleaner and results in less jams. However, it creates additional movement not present in the direct method and therefore sacrifices accuracy.

Gun makers today sets accuracy very high on the "important list" so you cant have these clearings between all the parts because everything will not line up exactly the same between shots. For an AK and at its time this did not matter, as more often than not you were so close to your enemy that you could smell their breath. Today its a different age and you make weapons that are reliably accurate and light weight (AK is a heavy bastard) all these three things naturally contradicts each other.

So while the AK enjoys a legendary reputation, by today’s standards, it’s a pretty crappy weapon…yes, its reliable, but it can barely hit anything over 400m and it is much heavier than it looks.

What Exactly Does A Movie Director Do?

The Director of a film (or a play, or a television show episode) is the person responsible for the creative vision of the piece. They create a concept from the script (which may or may not be something concretely found in the script, it may be metaphorical or tangential) and from the concept lead the design and production team towards a collaborative vision. Once rehearsals/filming have begin, the director blocks the piece (i.e. tells actors where to move), provides objective and subtextual support to the actors (i.e. tells them why they are saying the things the writer wrote) and ensures that the visual style and setting are within the original vision or concept parameters.

In film, they also work closely with the DP, first story-boarding the script, and then, once on set, making sure that each shoot is framed, blocked and shot per their vision. Including ALL design aspects, from the color of the walls to the type of purse a character might wear.

In essence they are the Captain of the ship. A lot of my notes below can also be laid at the feet of bad writing, but in film (less so TV and theatre) directors have a great deal of oversight on the writing, so they are typically held accountable if the writing is terrible.

A film which has been directed badly will usually (but not always, the problem with a collaborative art form, which is what film is, is that there are many, many chefs in the kitchen. However, since the director tends to get the credit when everything works, they also tend to get the blame when it doesn’t)–usually show the following flaws:

  1. Incoherent story telling. You don’t know what is happening. Or why it is happening. Or who it is happening to. Sometimes things are just blatantly implausible.

  2. Cliche or trope ridden dialogue/shots/events. You feel like you’ve seen all of these things before. All the characters are stereotypes, all the plot points unfailingly predictable. Note: cliches, tropes and stereotypes can all be used well. But bad directors tend not to.

  3. Bad dialogue. Dialogue that is forced and unnatural. Dialogue that is too on-the-nose. People telling other people things instead of doing things. People explaining how they feel ad nauseam. Dialogue spoken only to allow for the plot to push forward, leading us to:

  4. Coincidental plotting, or plots hole you could drive a freight train through (not the small inconsistencies that almost every movie has, but HUGE giant massive oh-my-god-this-movie-is-broken plot holes). Coincidental plotting is when everything that has to happen for the plot to move forward does, without any effort on the part of the hero (or the bad guy).

  5. Bad acting. Directors are responsible for getting a performance out of their actors, so even if the actor can’t act (one reason why casting is important) the director is still the one people are going to hold responsible for any painful moments on screen (this is less true in TV and theatre).

  6. Over or under designed. Over designed is when the concept/vision of the piece becomes more important then any other element. Think 300: Rise of an Empire or Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (not-at-all-oddly, both Frank Miller graphic novel adaptations, where the look was where the design team started with). Tim Burton is also a well-known director who can go to far with his vision/design to the point of over balancing the movie. Under designing is when there is a lack of design and the production feels (usually) cheap or not-thought-through. Good design elevates the narrative, supports the characters and provides visual clues to the audience about what is happening–excellent design can comment on and complement the action, enhancing the entire experience.

  7. Movies/TV only: bad editing. Either because there were technical difficulties during filming and the needed shots weren’t gotten (or a director wasn’t prepared and didn’t get the shots they needed), and therefore the editor is attempting to make up for missing and/or bad shots; or because the editing itself is just bad. Odd cuts, odd shots going back to back, odd audio issues. Various other things. While most early directors at a studio on a movie won’t have any say over the final cut, most editing issues are from a lack of footage (which is the director’s issue), not bad editing. OR a director who does have final cut approval and shouldn’t, which is where you got a three-hour movie that should have been 2 hours and 10 minutes max.

  8. Poor production value. An overall feel that the movie wasn’t cared for (this isn’t about money, this is about time and support). Usually shows in bad lighting, bad audio, bad set dressing, bad costumes–just an overall sense that these things weren’t considered important or there wasn’t time to pay attention to them.

A film, tv show or theatrical play is an immense, multi-part beast, and the Director is the one that tries to tame it. To varying degrees of success. Every director probably has one (or many) bad movies to their name, as its how we all learn. The more telling test is not if they directed a bad movie, but if people wanted to work with them again. And, sometimes, the love of the thing they are creating can shine through the worst movie and make it, somehow, good (think Sam Raimi’s original Evil Dead).

answers to questions

What does a movie producer do, exactly?

He shepherds the production from start to finish. In a typical arrangement, the producer develops an idea or script with a writer and secures the necessary rights. He often hires the director, supervises casting, and assembles a crew. Additionally, the producer oversees the budget and then coordinates the postproduction work—everything from editing, to commissioning music, to encouraging the film’s stars to plug the movie on talk shows.

The top post of "producer" is just the tip of the iceberg, as anyone who’s watched the opening credits of a movie knows well. Although Slumdog Millionaire, for example, credits only one producer, it lists two executive producers and two co-executive producers, along with a co-producer, an associate producer, and a line producer.

An executive producer often owns the rights to a book or story idea or secures at least 25 percent of the film’s budget. Executive producers rarely have creative or technical involvement and are often caught up with several projects at once. The "co-executive producer" title applies to studio executives or distributors who have a limited financial stake in the project. A co-producer works under the producer and often helps with casting, financing, or postproduction. The line producer is on the set at all times to supervise the budget but has little or no creative input.

"Associate producer" is a largely honorary title. Sometimes it’s a form of recompense for exceptional performance on-set. A script doctor who saves a bad screenplay, for example, might be granted an associate-producer credit. The title is also frequently an inexpensive way for a producer to pay back a favor or reward an assistant or colleague who had little to do with the film. As David Mamet wrote in State and Main, an associate producer credit is "what you give to your secretary instead of a raise."

To ensure that a producer nominated for a best picture Oscar actually supervised a majority of the production process, the Producers Guild and the Producers Branch Executive Committee of the academy conduct extensive interviews with everyone from studio executives to crew members. Occasionally, an investigation leaves producers out in the cold, as when the academy withheld nominations from four of the six producers of best picture winner Crash.

All the lesser producer credits go unregulated by the Producers Guild and are awarded at the discretion of the movie’s copyright holder. These credits rarely mean the same thing from movie to movie and are especially murky on smaller, independent films, in which limited budgets often mean a few people do several jobs at once.

answers to questions

Brandon Lee was killed on set by a bullet accidentally put in a gun. Why would this ever happen?

Dave Brown (firearms safety specialist) did a quite interesting Q&A with your question in it:

Q – First of all, let’s open with the question that always comes to mind whenever we think of firearms on film sets. Brandon Lee. What happened?
A – Well, like most serious incidents, it was not one big mistake but rather a chain of contributing factors. It actually began two weeks before that tragic night on the set of “The Crow.” The production needed some dummy cartridges for a close-up shot of loading a revolver. Not knowing better, they purchased real cartridges from a local gun store, pried off the bullets, dumped out the gunpowder and stuck the bullets back into the cases. Now, any firearms expert would be able to tell you that this is highly dangerous because, of course, the primers were still live, but unfortunately they were running out of both time and money at this point and had already sent their only firearms expert home early to save a few dollars.
While filming the close-ups, the actor they brought in for the scene was supposed to be supervised but the props assistant in charge of the firearm was busy doing other props work and left the actor on their own. Some witnesses reported they then saw the background performer pull the trigger while the “dummy” cartridges were still loaded in the chambers.
What people may not know is that if the primer is still live, when you pull the trigger there is no sound but the spark from the primer can expel a bullet an inch or two forward even with no gunpowder in the case. At the end of the day, the props assistant emptied out the cartridges and put the gun away. He knew nothing about cleaning the gun, let alone checking the barrel for obstructions.
Two weeks later, this same revolver loaded with blanks was used to fire at Brandon Lee. Again, the props assistant handling the gun had no clue how to check it for safety and simply loaded it with blanks. There was no firearms expert on set to instruct the actor how to “cheat” the angle to the side so that it doesn’t get pointed directly at the actor when fired.
Now, a blank has as much as twice the amount of gunpowder as a real cartridge and when that bullet was still lodged in the barrel from two weeks previous, the blank propelled the bullet out the barrel with the same explosive force as a real cartridge. The bullet struck Brandon Lee in the chest and he collapsed, never regaining consciousness. He died on the operating room table 13 hours later.

Average age of lung cancer diagnosis: 70 (source: http://www.cancer.org/cancer/lungcancer-non-smallcell/detailedguide/non-small-cell-lung-cancer-key-statistics )

Therefore in developed countries where the risk of other life threatening diseases is lower people are more likely to live long enough to develop lung cancer. In poorer countries such as Indonesia there are other more life threatening illnesses that lower the life expectancy and prevent people from living long enough to develop lung cancer.

VICE on HBO Season One: Addiction:

The dangers of smoking are no secret in the U.S., but in Indonesia, the tobacco industry is virtually unregulated. The result? Over two-thirds of all men are smokers, and it is commonplace for children as young as six to take up the habit. Tobacco is a $100 billion industry here, with TV and print ads everywhere. Investigating this phenomenon in Malang, VICE visits a clinic that promises cures to a plethora of modern ailments through tobacco and smoking — with our intrepid correspondent getting the full smoke-therapy treatment.

answers to questions

What does Batman have against Superman?

In the comics, superman and batman were suspicious of each others’ motives, both feeling the other had an alterior motive for doing what they did. That, coupled with superman occasionally going off the "deep end" (like becoming enraged and wreaking untold havoc on the world just to win a fight, having his mind controlled, etc), has caused the two to fight in the DC comics. These fights, although rare, are a huge part of the DC universe. It pairs off batman’s tactical genius, against superman’s superior physical abilities.

In the trailer, it appears to be that batman becomes furious at superman’s lack of empathy as he destroys the world, killing thousands of people, just to win a fight against Zod.

What makes Beethoven, Mozart and Bach better than other classical music composers?

Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach are not all classical composers.

Before Bach a lot of music was very simple, a single vocal or chorus and maybe an instrument playing too. Bach wasan early a later composer in the Baroque era, this era of music introduced much more complexity with multiple instrument parts, but it was still relatively simple music, usually featuring a single lead instrument with backing. Bach is seen as one of the best composers of this era, or at least the quintessential Baroque composer.

Mozart was one of the first a classical composers. The classical movement put a lot more emphasis on technical excellence in its music. Instead of the Baroque style of having a single lead instrument and backing pieces classical music would have different parts for every instrument in the orchestra, each instruments sound would weave the fabric of the music.

Beethoven wrote music in both Classical and the new Romantic style. The Romantic style took Classical and made it more dramatic. Rather than being about just technical excellence it was about the feel of the music, the ebb and flow. The composer was trying to evoke emotions in the listeners with their music. The music would alter its tempo and timbre, it would quiet down to a single instrument only to explode back into the full orchestra.

Each of these musicians is considered the best of their era, each era was considered a leap forward in the philosophy of music.

answers to questions

What exactly does LSD do to your brain?

The first thing we need to establish is what a neurotransmitter is. Essentially, there are chemicals that exist within your brain that help transmit and modulate information. This happens by the chemicals binding to a site, similar to a lock and key, where the key (neurotransmitter) unlocks a lock (receptor) and this lets the brain know that certain information was exchanged. This information typically releases something known as an action potential, or essentially an electrical signal – basically it lets another part of the brain know that this part of the brain was ‘activated’.

There are only so many neurotransmitters and they can do a variety of things in the brain.

LSD, or lysergic acid diethylamide has a structure that is very similar to a few neurotransmitters that are naturally produced. The key it is most similar to is a neurotransmitter known as serotonin. Serotonin is used to modulate and signal a variety of things in the brain. Visual processing (or what you see) utilizes a lot of serotonin. Almost all of the senses have some serotonin input as well. Emotional processing (sad, happy, excited, etc.) is also heavily serotonin influenced.

LSD happens to be even better at activating serotonin receptors than serotonin itself, so it essentially increases the normal levels of signaling by serotonin (it does this through a variety of mechanisms, not just limited to better binding – it actually releases extra serotonin, changes the lock to accept keys more readily, etc.). In a lot of ways its like turning up the volume on quiet music. Not only are the already audible pieces more audible, but things you previously could not hear are now audible (whispers you might have missed, or background noise might now become audible).

Because it increases the signal, it also increases the signal noise (if you turn the volume up on a microphone very high, you sometimes get feedback loops, or that annoying high pitched noise). In addition, if you have the volume extremely high, you may not be able to differentiate between the louder sounds very well. On LSD, this often results in hallucinations – hearing, seeing, touching, tasting, etc. things that are not actually there.

In addition, through a relatively unknown mechanism, LSD increases ‘cross-talk’ between areas of the brain. That is to say, it helps stimulate areas of the brain that don’t normally talk to each other, to start talking to each other. Over the long term, it can even help create connections that previously didn’t exist – much like putting up extra telephone or internet lines. This increased cross-talk while under the influence of LSD (combined with the increased sensory input) often results in something known as synesthesia, or a mixing of the senses. What this means is that people might experience a sense across multiple senses – they might see sound, taste colors, or feel smells.

Since the mechanism of cognition (what causes us to think the way we do) is not known, I cannot explain why it changes a person’s mindset, only that it does. People often describe it as ‘thinking outside the box’. Having done LSD myself many times, I agree that it shifts the paradigm of thought. It likely is associated with this ‘cross-talk’ mechanism, at least to some extent, but the increase in serotonin and dopamine likely has an effect as well. Other serotonergic drugs, such as ecstasy (which is very similar to hallucinogens), shift how you think as well because increased serotonin results in a sort of euphoria (happiness). It also seems to increase one’s ability to empathize with someone else – that is to say, you more easily relate with someone else’s emotional state. This increased empathy also changes how you think about things.

It’s important to note that no hallucinogens have any proven addictive mechanisms (they are the only recreational drugs that have no addictive qualities). In addition, casual use is not associated with any permanent brain damage. Any use, casual or not, will reduce the relative abundance of serotonin (and other catecholamine receptors, such as dopamine) receptors. However, anecdotal evidence suggests that a single use of a moderate dose can be recovered from within about 1-2 weeks of abstinence.

answers to questions

What is depression like?

I think everyone probably experiences their own particular flavor, so to speak. Sort of like pizza. We all can ID what a pizza is and yet each one:

  • Has different seasonings in different amounts
  • Has different toppings
  • Is cooked uniquely
  • Has different dough

And so on.

For me, it’s a blend of apathy and tiredness. (Depression, not my preferred pizza.)

Think about your normal morning. You get out of bed, shower, brush your teeth, put on some clean clothing, and so on. Most people do all that mindlessly; it’s just what one does in the morning. But with depression each simple task somehow becomes a challenge that takes a lot of willpower to overcome.

If you manage to make it through getting out of bed, if you manage to make it through taking a shower — complete with things like shampoo, because, trust me, each little detail requires willpower and effort — if you manage to care enough to find clean clothing, and so on, by the time you make it out the door you’re just totally fucking drained.

It’s like you’ve just worked an intensive 12 hour shift and your brain is fried and you just want to watch some shitty movie and pass out before you have to do it again.

Except that it’s the morning and you’ve got to somehow muster up the energy and, yes, the courage to go to class or work or whatever. So you (hopefully) show up. At this point you’re expected to focus and participate like someone who isn’t already physically exhausted and brain dead. That requires more willpower.

Spoiler alert: you just used all your willpower this morning! You used it on stupid things like forcing yourself to use shampoo, or forcing yourself to open the closet door to get clean socks rather than just using yesterday’s pair. You used it on things that most people don’t have to think about.

But none of that matters because excuses don’t matter in the real world. "I tried" merits absolute dick; people just care about what you actually do, except for (if you’re lucky) people like family and close friends.

Which brings us to the next herb on our depression pie: you often don’t feel like you deserve help, and if you do then you’re often afraid to get it because mental illness still has a huge stigma. Which means that if you were lucky enough to have people who care in the first place that you’re often inclined to push them away.

It’s sort of like:

  • Being constantly physically exhausted; your body can apparently cause itself to ache and random pains
  • Being constantly mentally exhausted; you only have so much mental energy and you’ve spent it all before you’ve left the house
  • Add a dash of feeling like you deserve it; you can really hate yourself
  • Add a side of "because I hate myself I want to be reckless or engage in self-harm"
  • Add a splash of shame; you don’t feel "normal"
  • Add a dollop of feeling like you’ll never get better so what’s the point of anything

Throw it all together and you’ve got a pretty godawful pie. Please forgive the excessive food metaphors as I haven’t eaten yet.

answers to questions

Why does illegal money need to be "laundered"?

Because people have to pay taxes, and the government would notice huge amounts of money appearing from nowhere.

Let’s say that you are a drug dealer. You make cash money, and you buy a big house and a car. But, you don’t pay any taxes. The IRS sees all of the sales records (the person that sold you the house files taxes, the dealership that sold you the car, etc.) and says "That’s odd, this guy isn’t reporting his income!" And then they investigate, and find out that you have all this illegal income, and you get arrested for not paying taxes, and then that gives them cause to look into everything else you have been doing.

Let’s say, however, that you own a carwash. You get money coming in from that. But, you also have money coming in from your drug business. So, you make it look like the drug money was actually from cars in your car wash. The IRS looks at it and says "what a successful car wash," stamps your form, and you’re good to go. It disguises the illegitimate money to look legitimate.

Baseball Stadium Hot Dogs

Baseball Stadium Hot Dogs

Hot dogs and baseball just go together, but unfortunately this meaty treat is not always best prepared at concession stands. Employees say that they are kept hydrated in warming water and the unused portion gets refrigerated and recycled for the next event. That’s right, you could be munching on a month-old hot dog.

McCafe Drinks

McCafe Drinks

According to a longtime McDonalds employee, the McCafe machine is the most neglected part of the cleaning process. Apparently, most employees and even manager aren’t trained in how to properly clean these machines, so the drinks that come out of them travel through some not-so-clean tubes.

McNuggets (Unless they’re fresh)

McNuggets

The chicken nuggets sit around in the warming bin until they are ordered by a customer instead of being discarded after a certain length of time. The advice from an employee is to use the phrase, “fresh order of McNuggets” every time you order.

Taco Bell Steak and Beans

Taco Bell Steak and Beans

One Taco Bell employee warns any customer to stay away from items containing beans or steak at the famous Mexican-style fast food chain. The beans are made from a rehydrated mix of ingredients and when the steak sits too long then it starts to take on the consistency of hair gel.

Panera Pasta

Panera Pasta

None of the pasta is made fresh at the restaurant, instead it is brought in frozen. The frozen pasta is then microwaved and served, even the macaroni and cheese. Stick to the actually freshly made sandwiches and salads.

Wendy’s Chili

Wendy's Chili

The chili is made from hamburger meat from the grill that has not been used. The meat gets collected in a container until there is enough to make a batch of chili with rehydrated beans and water.

Starbucks Secret Menu Items

Starbucks Secret Menu Items

“If you want a snickerdoodle, nuttella, or captain crunch frappuchino (or whatever other overly sugery thing someone has since come out with), know the base drink and the modifications, and order that. If you just say the name, it’s up to the barista to come up with what’s in the drink, and it may not be what the last barista you ordered from put in there.”

KFC Barbeque Sandwiches

KFC Barbeque Sandwiches

One long-time Kentucky Fried Chicken worker warns against ordering the chain’s barbeque sandwiches. Apparently, the chicken used in them is so stale that it couldn’t even be given to homeless shelters. Instead of throwing it out, workers soak it in barbeque sauce and leave it in the heater for a month.

Eggs From Einstein Bagels

Eggs From Einstein Bagels

The bagel shop does not use fresh eggs on their sandwiches. The eggs are microwaved and then placed in a warming bin until they are ordered, which could literally be hours after they have been nuked.

Donuts from Dunkin’ Donuts

Donuts from Dunkin' Donuts

Sorry, guys, but your favorite one-stop donut shop isn’t as great as you may think. The doughnuts are delivered to the store frozen and then cooked on the premises.

Movie Theater Popcorn

Movie Theater Popcorn

Of course you want to get popcorn at the movies, but be sure that you’re doing it at a late showing. If you are seeing an early show, then chances are that the popcorn was kept in a garbage bag overnight and simply reheated in the morning.

Restauraunt Lemons

Restauraunt Lemons

“I’ve worked at 4 restaurants in my life and lemons and ice are by far the most disgusting things you can get”

The skin of a lemon contains several thousand pours that can hold bacteria. If the lemons are not carefully washed prior to use, there is a chance that bacterial can make its way into your water. Lemons are perfectly safe to use and they provide several health benefits when washed correctly.

Sonic’s Chicken Sandwich

Sonic's Chicken Sandwich

What’s right with Sonic’s chicken. It isn’t true chicken, it comes frozen, and it sits in the fridge for a while since it is not a very popular item.

Panera Pastries

Panera Pastries

Freshly baked everyday? Nope. Former Panera employees admit that they receive the cupcakes and coffee cakes frozen. All the employees simply stick them in the toaster to warm them up.

Chipolte Quesorito

Chipolte Quesorito

People went crazy when they found out that you could order a burrito that with a quesadilla shell at Chipotle. While it may taste great, you might want to think twice before you order it. The item takes extra-long to make, so ordering it during peak hours can bring the line to a standstill, and both employees and other customers will hate you. Try it out when the store is empty.

Slurpee Machines

Slurpee Machines

Former employees say it’s best to stay away from the Slurpee machine because it is seldom washed properly and mold can grow quickly.

Fast Food Salads

Fast Food Salads

“Unless we had a salad chef on staff for the night, as a server we had to prepare our own salads on order. The policy was to wear gloves when making the salads, but busy servers don’t have time to do it. More often then not I would see servers just sticking their bare hands in the salad trays and assembling the salads. They weren’t suppose to do this according to policy, but it happened.” – Uno’s Grill Former Employee

“I ordered a salad from Applebees and noticed a gray piece of lettuce. As I looked close at it, it wasn’t lettuce at all. It was a moth and was still moving. I literally almost puked at the table.” – Mary M, NH

Most salads are not cooked, which means if there is any bacteria in the batch, it can spread fast. For this reason you should only consider eating salads from fine restaurants.
