Pit Bull Used as Bait Dog Gets Rescued And Experiences Human Kindness For The First Time

This is a story of the right person, in the right place, at the right time. Rock Hill real estate agent Casey Lawrence found the injured Pit Bull dumped in the woods after getting lost while showing a property. The dog was discarded and left to die after likely being used as a bait dog by dog fighters. He was surrounded by bones and animal carcasses!

Fortunately, Casey found the dog, now named Rambo, in time! She rushed Rambo to Baxter Veterinary Clinic. Rambo was covered with bite marks and lacerations and was severely injured, and his leg wounds infected with gangrene.

There is no way of knowing the amount of time this poor dog, now known as Rambo, was left lying there alone, after being thrown away. Judging by his injuries, and the fact that there were other long since discarded carcasses, it is pretty clear that he was used as a bait dog in a fighting ring.

Rambo 4

Baxter Veterinary Clinic immediately stepped in to care for Rambo, preventing him from going into shock and saving his life.

Despite the trauma, neglect and abuse, Rambo did not give up on humans – he continued to wag his tail and give the staff kisses.

Once his condition was stabilized, Rambo was placed in a shallow tabletop basin where a technician lovingly cleansed his wounds with warm water. You can see from the photo posted to the Baxter Veterinary Clinic’s Facebook page that he was relaxed and soothed by the treatment – likely the first kind, gentle contact he’s ever had with a human.

a bait dog at a vet

By the following day, the timid, submissive pup was already wagging his tail for staff members and displaying a healthy appetite. Veterinarian James Doyle described Rambo’s personality as a perfect example of a bait dog. They’re not aggressive dogs and that’s why they’re used as bait dogs, because they’re not any good at fighting.

Rambo 11 use

Every Life Matters Animal Rescue and donations from the community have helped cover the costs for Rambo but they, like other rescue organizations, continue to need funds to continue paying for his recovery, along with all the other dogs who need help.

Investigators believe the site where Rambo was found, was the dog fighting rings personal dump site. Rambo’s serious injuries to both back legs are what led his captors to leave him for dead.

Image via Baxter Veterinary Clinic

Rambo’s abusers are still currently being searched for by South Carolina Police. But in the meantime, this sweet tempered pooch keeps his tail waggin while snuggling with his plush toy. His recovery will likely be long and painful, but, his prognosis is good. His experiences with the loving and caring humans that have been taking care of him, have seemed to make him feel his nightmare is now over. Every comforting pat or rub given him, he happily repays with kisses.

A YouCaring page has been set up for updates and for those interested in donating.

Confessions Of A Man Who Spent Nearly 18 Years In Prison For A Crime He Didn’t Commit

In 1995, Eric Glisson was arrested for a taxi driver’s murder and eventually sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. Glisson was convicted for the Jan. 19, 1995, murder of Bronx cabbie Baithe Diop after a woman named Miriam Tavares testified that she had seen and heard the murderers from her bathroom window. Glisson, who was sentenced to 25 years to life on Feb. 3, 1995, was one of six people Tavares pointed out. The group was quickly labeled “The Bronx Six.”

From New York’s maximum-security prison Sing Sing Correctional Facility, Glisson relied heavily on the Freedom of Information Act to prove his innocence claims after his appeals were denied,

Cross became convinced of Glisson’s innocence after he visited the scene of the crime and noted it would have been impossible for Tavares to have seen or heard anything from her bathroom window as it was 100 yards away. However, it wasn’t until 2012, after Glisson had been in prison for over 17 years that he was able to obtain undeniable evidence of his innocence. Cell phone records from Diop’s mobile, which Glisson got a copy of through the Freedom of Information Act, revealed the phone had been used to call family of two Bronx Sex, Money, Murder gang members after the murder and the district attorney had known all along, NBC reported in 2014. By coincidence, a letter Glisson wrote to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York crossed the desk of Investigator John O’Malley, the man who’d heard Bronx Sex, Money, Murder gang members Jose Rodriguez and Gilbert Vega confess to killing Diop 10 years prior.

O’Malley, who told Dateline he’d had no idea someone was serving time for Rodriguez and Vega’s crime until that time, signed an affidavit testifying to Glisson’s innocence. Glisson would sit in prison another four months before prosecutors completed the legal process to set him and another member of the alleged “Bronx Six” free on Oct. 22, 2012. Glisson spent four months shy of 18 years in prison

Were you framed? Was it a mismanaged case or both? Seems odd that 5 people go to jail for one murder.

I believe it was both.

Were the real killers connected to you in any way, did you know them or know of them before your arrest and wrongful sentence?

I didn’t know them personally, but apparently they lived in my neighborhood.

What did they have for evidence to convict you/how were you convicted?

They had an eye-witness who falsified her testimony. She was drug addicted and homeless, and said she saw all of us exiting the back of a taxi cab. There was no forensics, no fingerprints, no nothing.

Do you believe racism played a role in your conviction?

I believe that it’s not just about racism, it’s about not being able to afford a competent attorney.

Did you have any friends or family who believed you were guilty and how did that go?

A lot of family members and friends were under the impression that I actually committed this crime and as a circumstance of that and abandoned me. They all now know the truth and have taken steps to amend their past judgement of me and I’ve accepted it.

Do you blame them for thinking you were guilty?

No, it’s typical. Once you’re accused of a crime and you sit at the defense table, everyone is skeptical.

What was the biggest shock when you first got to prison?

It’s not the image you see on TV. There’s not as much violence, the food isn’t as bad. If your family sends you food packages, you can actually cook for yourself.

Were you ever victim to any violence while in prison? How did you get along with other inmates and the officers?

I mostly stayed to myself, and frequented the law library a lot. I taught a lot of people to read and write. I taught the GED class. I stayed busy. I went to prison with a sixth grade education and left with a bachelors of behavioral science.

How in the loop were you with what was going on outside of the jail on a World/Political level? From what I can gather you were in prison over 9/11/2001. We hear what it was like for people who had the news readily available, what was your experience like?

Newspapers were my only connection to the outside world. And radio.

When the other inmates asked what you were in for, did you bother to tell them that you’re innocent and if so, what was their reaction (to what you were in for and that you were claiming to be innocent)?

I told everyone I was innocent. There were mixed responses until the facts of the case were revealed.

Did you ever consider suicide while being trapped in there?

Several times. When you lose all of your appeals, and you have to consider that you’ll be in there the rest of your life because parole almost is never given to convicted murders, you think the only relief is to end it. But, something inside you keeps telling you to fight.

Was there ever a time when you didn’t think you being freed was going to happen?

Every second you are under the impression you will never get out of there, but you have to think optimistically and think that a day would come that you would eventually be released.

How do you keep yourself from hating everyone and life? Is there some sort of inner peace that you realized while inside that allowed you to stay sane?

What good would it do to hate everyone? That’s not who I am.

During the time you were imprisoned, what was the one thing you truly missed the most?

My daughter. I was taken away from her one week after she was born. She’s 19 now.

How is your relationship with your daughter now?

Strained, and still it feels like she resents me for leaving her for all of these years.

How one can launch their own investigation from their cell? That sounds extremely hard.

It was hard. I used the FOIA(Freedom of Inormation Act). I have a stack of letters I sent… they denied me for years. Finally, in 2012 I got ONE document that opened the whole case up and proved who the real killers were.

Why did it take so long for you to be exonerated? Did they just recently look into the circumstances of your case? Did your investigation have anything to do with them looking into it?

I did my own research and investigation and found the real killers from inside my cell. Only when the US Attorneys office got involved did the courts in the Bronx take this matter seriously and re-investigate the case.

How long after you found out who the real criminals were did you remain in prison?

Almost eight months.

Have you spoken with the prosecutors who worked to convict you? What have they said about the situation?

The prosecutor who convicted me had a massive heart attack in court, and died during a different murder trial.

What did they say when they released you? “Our bad”?

They didn’t say anything. I went up to the assistant DA who opposed every appeal that I filed and I shook her hand and told her it was finally nice to meet my long-term nemesis, and she’s won a lot of battles but I just won the war. Seemed to me she put her head down in shame.

What was your first meal, and how was it?

My first meal was lamb chops and cheese cake, which was awesome. It was like the first time ever tasting lamb chops again.

What most shocked you about the world today after being in prison for so long?

Seeing all of these young kids, how the subculture has changed. With all the piercings, and body tattoos, they way they dress with their pants hanging.

Biggest shock as far as technology goes?

Cell phones!

Have you gotten used to them yet?

I’ve ran through about seven of them so far. I keep breaking them! The screens are fragile, and I washed one in the washing machine.

Did you play any video games before 1995, and have you tried any of the newest ones, for comparison?

I played Nintendo, but now I have an Xbox360. Graphics are totally different.

Has the stigma of once being in prison for murder been hard to live with? Such as finding a job or anything like that?

I have difficulties with credit issues, housing. I just got a new apartment, and had to pay a full years rent because I don’t have credit.

I opened a juice bar in the Bronx called Fresh Take On Life, and work there every day.

Michigan is possibly going to pass a law that would pay people like you $60,000 per year for incorrect incarceration. As someone who has actually went through this and isn’t just one of us sideline commentators, do you believe that $1,080,000 would be ample compensation for the 18 years you spent behind bars?

That’s nothing.

Do you think you’re a rare exception or do you think this kind of injustice happens all the time?

It happens all the time. More than you know.

What are you going to do with your free time now? Are you going to start helping others who feel like they have been wrongly convicted?

I am currently trying to persuade anyone that I can to help me fund a foundation called Chimes of Freedom, to help exonerate other innocent individuals.

If you could advocate for one change in the justice system, what would it be? And what piece of evidence did the prosecutors focus on the most?

That prosecutors and detectives be held accountable for their actions if they cover up evidence.

What’s your very best life advice?

Just enjoy everything that comes your way. Whatever circumstance you find yourself in, good or bad, just take everything in stride. It’ll get better before you know it.

10 Answers To Questions You Always Wondered About

How can explosives like C4 be so stable?

Let’s say you have an extinct volcano with a big caldera at the top (a large pit). At the bottom of the pit is a boulder. It will take so much energy to get that boulder up to the edge of the caldera, but once you get it over, the boulder will roll down the entire volcano releasing many times the amount of energy.

This is the same concept for explosives.

Instead of gravity and hills, we are working with bond strength. The bonds in C4 are pretty strong, so random energy from just sitting around is unlikely to break them and even a surprising amount of physical shock. However, if you can put enough focused energy into some of the substance, the atoms become free to bond in a different configuration and when they do, they release more energy than it takes to break them up. Much of this energy goes into breaking up other bonds in the immediate area, those atoms recombine into other molecules, release a bunch of energy, and continue the reaction.

The easiest way to trigger the initial breaking of bonds is to use a primary explosive (e.g. a blasting cap) but an electrical current can also do the trick.

Why do some people look unattractive in photos, but look attractive when in person?

In converting a 3d image like a person into a 2d image like a photo, some features are lost. Part of modeling is knowing which features to accentuate in order to look right on camera. When taking a photo one might stick their chin toward the camera, it looks weird in person but it prevents the camera from making you look like you have a poorly defined chin due to the flat image.

Why is it that billions of dollars can be transferred electronically every day but electronic voting systems are still unreliable and unsafe?

The essence of electronic funds transfer is being absolutely positive who sent the money to whom. Those techniques could be used for voting, if people could accept everybody knowing exactly who everybody voted for. Alas, that tends to lead to a lot of intimidation, retaliation, and social badness. Thus we’ve determined that we need a secret ballot, where nobody can tell who voted for whom, and only the vote totals are knowable. AND it’s very important that every person only gets to vote once. Not every computer, or every IP address, but every human.

It’s a much harder problem when you add all the requirements, and secure anonymity is a particularly difficult problem that lots of computer scientists are researching.

– WRSaunders

Why are most people more sexually attracted to other parts of the human body in comparison to the sexual organs?

Males seek a fit mate to breed with. Breasts signify maturity and wide hips (or a nice ass if you want) signify great fertility. Females on the other hand want someone who can look after them. So they are usually attracted to fit and muscular males. The form and shape of your genitals dont really matter in breeding/carrying over your genes, so they don’t need to be attractive. As long as they are fit to do their job, its good.

When you go on a roller coaster or drive fast down a hill, why do you get that stomach drop feeling? What is actually happening inside your body that causes the feeling?

You’re feeling weightlessness. Your body falls faster than your organs, so they “rise” in your body. If you were to hold a water bottle up in the air, and move it down quickly, the water inside will go to the top until it stops moving. This is what it would feel like in space all the time. When you are in zero gravity, you are technically in a constant free-fall.

Why is produce at ethnic stores so cheap?

There are different tiers of quality for produce when it gets packed, they are called classes. The three classes are: Class 1 which is export market(Japan, korea, China etc.) Class two is domestic market (Safeway, Costco, Target) and class three; peddler. For class 1’s the fruit must be perfect in the box, zero defects and sizing must usually be accurate at no more than 6% error. Of course because the labor is more intensive the price is premium. Class two standards are usually at 8% defect and sizing error. Class three is peddler quality, sizing errors are okay, weird shaped fruit and so on, but as long as it passes USDA inspections were okay. The fruit for class three has the most visual defects, not really affecting the quality of the fruit but not the most visually pleasing. Most ethnic markets/flea markets/roadside fruit stands buy class three. A box for class three might sell for 20 dollars depending on what fruit it is, whereas a class 1 might sell for upwards of 100 dollars.

How does a flash bang work? Does it actually blind a person, or cause impaired hearing, or both?

It’s very bright. It temporarily blinds the eyes. There’s nothing much you can do about that. It’s basically like if you shine a really bright LED flashlight into your eyes or look into the sun for a bit (DO NOT TRY!)

It’s very loud. 170-180db loud. A pistol gunshot is about 140-150. The decibel rating system is logarithmic so 170-180 is over 100 times louder than a gunshot.

What’s the ‘point of no return’ for regenerating muscles and bones? If you loose a finger, that’s it, but if you get a really nasty cut, most will heal.

The line is how much blood can get to the injured area.

When you experience an injury, your body does everything it can to close the hole — including replace functional tissue with scar tissue (this is called fibrosis). A small cut can be healed easily since both halves generally stick back together and there’s plenty of vasculature (blood vessels) to supply nutrients and other important building blocks. A large or deep cut, however, often repairs with scar tissue since blood can’t quickly start to work on the fully damaged space. Special cells in your blood start to fill the space with collagen fibers, which don’t support vasculature very well (but can be bridged across gaps in tissue to make it whole again).

Also, the human body can’t regenerate lost tissue. If you section your kidney, half of it won’t grow back. When we take out veins from the leg for CABGs (coronary artery bypass graft), the vein is gone from the leg forever. The only exception is the liver, which experiences extremely limited regeneration.

Who were the Khmer Rouge and what did they do?

The Khmer Rouge was a communist revolutionary government in Cambodia in the mid/late 70’s. It was founded by a group of largely western-educated Cambodians who entirely rejected concepts of the free market and individual liberties. Instead, they attempted to construct an entirely self-sustaining nation through a rigid regime of top-down social engineering. This included the abolishment of banking, finance, currency, and some religions. People living in urban areas were (often forcibly) moved to the rural areas of the country to work in agriculture (again, often against their will). It was a bold and frankly inhuman stab at what could conceivably be called a “classless” society.

The genocide came in a number of forms, which included but were not limited to:

  • Famine. The urban workers relocated to the fields knew nothing about agriculture, so land was not nearly cultivated to its full potential, resulting in mass famine almost immediately after the regime took control.

  • Disease. The Khmer Rouge believed that the country should be autonomous in all respects, including medicine. If the country did not have the resources to produce a certain drug, that drug was entirely unavailable (at least to the non-ruling class). As a result, thousands died to common and preventable diseases.

  • Execution and reeducation. Violations of the regime’s anti-capitalist tenets were generally punishable by death. If you hoarded food, you could be executed. If you harvested wild crops, you could be executed. If you traded for a profit, you could be executed. Naturally, if you ever spoke out (publicly or privately) against the regime or its principles, you could be executed. Needless to say, corporal punishment was doled out without judicial process. Additionally, torture and execution were doled out on those suspected of being an enemy of the regime. This included anyone with material ties to the former government, many people with college-level educations, individuals of other ethnic backgrounds (including Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai), virtually any practicing religious person, anyone unable to grow their assigned crops (at quotas well in excess of those achievable before the regime took power), almost anyone who spoke English or French, and even people who simply wore glasses.

In short, it was an attempt to reboot civilization (sans capitalism) and establish a society without wealth or class. As explained above, the Khmer Rouge did not tolerate non-believers well.

Harriet Tubman with rescued slaves – Auburn, NY, circa 1887

Tubman also carried a revolver, and was not afraid to use it. The gun afforded some protection from the ever-present slave catchers and their dogs, however she also purportedly threatened to shoot any escaped slave who tried to turn back on the journey since that would threaten the safety of the remaining group.Tubman told the tale of one man who insisted he was going to go back to the plantation when morale got low among a group of fugitive slaves. She pointed the gun at his head and said, “You go on or die.” Several days later, he was with the group as they entered the United Province of Canada

The house that Donald Trump couldn’t buy. circa 1991 (article)

In Coking’s telling, Trump first tried to charm her, then tried to stomp her.

“He’d come over to the house, probably thinking, ‘If I butter her up now, I’ll get her house for a good price,’ ” Coking told the New York Daily News in 1998. “Once, he gave me Neil Diamond tickets. I didn’t even know who Neil Diamond was.”

Coking, who is now more than 90 years old and was not available to be interviewed, was having none of it. This was her “dream house,” said Dana Berliner, an attorney with the Arlington, Va.-based Institute for Justice, a civil liberties law firm that represented Coking in her case against Trump and Atlantic City’s casino development authority.

“She was a very determined person,” Berliner said.

Coking held firm, even as the 22-story Trump Plaza soared outside her windows with its ever-flashing lights. The house was deteriorating, but Coking’s will wasn’t. Demolition crews had set fire to her roof, broken windows and smashed up much of the third floor, according to her attorneys. Still, she didn’t move.

Female Snipers of the 3rd Shock Army, 1st Belorussian Front – 775 confirmed kills in one photograph (1945)

Dr. Leonid Rogozov operating himself to remove his appendix in Antarctica 1961

In 1961, Rogozov was stationed at a newly constructed Russian base in Antarctica. The 12 men inside were cut off from the outside world by the polar winter by March of that year. On the morning of 29 April 1961, Rogozov experienced general weakness, nausea, and moderate fever, and later pain in the lower right portion of the abdomen. His symptoms were classic: he had acute appendicitis. “He knew that if he was to survive he had to undergo an operation”, the British Medical Journal recounted. “But he was in the frontier conditions of a newly founded Antarctic colony on the brink of the polar night. Transportation was impossible. Flying was out of the question, because of the snowstorms. And there was one further problem: he was the only physician on the base”. Rogozov wrote in his diary:

“It seems that I have appendicitis. I am keeping quiet about it, even smiling. Why frighten my friends? Who could be of help? A polar explorer’s only encounter with medicine is likely to have been in a dentist’s chair”.

All the available conservative treatment was applied (antibiotics, local cooling), but the patient’s general condition was getting worse: his body temperature rose, vomiting became more frequent.

“I did not sleep at all last night. It hurts like the devil! A snowstorm whipping through my soul, wailing like a hundred jackals. Still no obvious symptoms that perforation is imminent, but an oppressive feeling of foreboding hangs over me… This is it… I have to think through the only possible way out: to operate on myself…It’s almost impossible…but I can’t just fold my arms and give up”.

Rogozov had no option but to perform the operation on himself. The operation started at 02:00 local time on the first day of May with the help of a driver and meteorologist, who were providing instruments and holding a mirror to observe areas not directly visible, while Rogozov was in a semi-reclining position, half-turned to his left side. After 30-40 minutes Rogozov started to take short breaks because of general weakness and vertigo. Finally he removed the severely affected appendix. He applied antibiotics in the peritoneal cavity and closed the wound. The operation itself lasted an hour and 45 minutes. Partway through, the helping team took photographs of the operation.

“I worked without gloves. It was hard to see. The mirror helps, but it also hinders—after all, it’s showing things backwards. I work mainly by touch. The bleeding is quite heavy, but I take my time—I try to work surely. Opening the peritoneum, I injured the blind gut and had to sew it up. Suddenly it flashed through my mind: there are more injuries here and I didn’t notice them… I grow weaker and weaker, my head starts to spin. Every 4-5 minutes I rest for 20-25 seconds. Finally, here it is, the cursed appendage! With horror I notice the dark stain at its base. That means just a day longer and it would have burst and… At the worst moment of removing the appendix I flagged: my heart seized up and noticeably slowed; my hands felt like rubber. Well, I thought, it’s going to end badly. And all that was left was removing the appendix… And then I realized that, basically, I was already saved”.

After the operation gradual improvement occurred in the signs of peritonitis and in the general condition of Rogozov. Body temperature returned to normal after five days, and the stitches were removed seven days after the operation. A lone man refusing to do the “Sieg Heil” salute at the launching of the Horst Wessel in Nazi Germany 1936

The photo was taken at the launch of a German army vessel in 1936, during a ceremony that was attended by Adolf Hitler himself. Within the picture a lone man stood with arms crossed as hundreds of men and women around him held up their arms in salute and allegiance to the Nazi Party and its leader, Adolph Hitler. Everyone in attendance is showing their undying support for Der Fuhrer by throwing out their very best “Sieg Heil.” August Landmesser, grimacing with arms crossed, stood strong and defiant as he showed his disapproval by not displaying support for the Nazi Party. What made this photo and Landmesser’s defiance unique is that it represented the protest of one man, in its most sincere and pure form. The source of Landmesser’s protest, like many great tragedies, starts with a love story.

The story of August Landmesser’s anti-gesture begins, ironically enough, with the Nazi Party. Believing that having the right connections would help land him a job in the pulseless economy, Landmesser joined the Nazi Party in 1931. Little did he know that his heart would soon ruin any progress that his superficial political affiliation might have made. In 1934, Landmesser met Irma Eckler, a Jewish woman, and the two fell deeply in love. Their engagement a year later got him expelled from the party, and their marriage application was denied under the newly enacted racial Nuremberg Laws. They had a baby girl, Ingrid, in October of the same year, and two years later in 1937, the family made a failed attempt to flee to Denmark, where they were apprehended at the border. August was arrested and charged for “dishonoring the race” under Nazi racial law. He argued that neither he nor Eckler knew that she was fully Jewish, and was acquitted on 27 May 1938 for lack of evidence, with the warning that a repeat offense would result in a multi-year prison sentence.

The couple publicly continued their relationship and a month later August Landmesser would be arrested again and sentenced to hard labor for two years in a concentration camp. He would never see his beloved wife again. Eckler was detained by the Gestapo and held at the prison Fuhlsbüttel, where she gave birth to a second daughter Irene. Their children were initially taken to the city orphanage. Ingrid was later allowed to live with her maternal grandmother; Irene went to the home of foster parents in 1941. Later, after her grandmother’s death in 1953, Ingrid was also placed with foster parents. A few letters came from Irma Eckler until January 1942. It is believed that she was taken to the so-called Bernburg Euthanasia Centre in February 1942, where she was among the 14,000 killed. In the course of post-war documentation, in 1949 she was pronounced legally dead, with a date of 28 April 1942.

August would be released in 1941 and began work as a foreman. Two years later, as the German army became increasingly mired by its desperate circumstances, Landmesser would be drafted into a penal infantry along with thousands of other men. He would go missing in Croatia where it is presumed he died, six months before Germany would officially surrender. His body was never recovered. Like Eckler, he was declared legally dead in 1949.

Gregori Rasputin with his admirers 1914

Who was Rasputin and what was his influence?

Rasputin was a religious mystic and faith healer. The heir to the Russian thrown had hemophilia, which at the time was poorly understood and potentially very dangerous. Rasputin was able to stop his bleeding, either by using hypnosis or giving him aspirin. This gave him access to the royal family and influence with the Russian Empress.

During WWI Rasputin prophesied that Russian forces would not be victorious until the Emperor personally led them. This did not go well. Rasputin was later assassinated for unclear reason. He famously took a long time to die and survived through several methods of murder.

President Nixon meets with China’s Communist Party Leader, Mao Tse-Tung, 1972

What was Mao’s ‘Great Leap Forward’ and ‘The Cultural Revolution’ all about?

When Mao came to power in China, he had big plans to change his country. For all of it’s history, China was an agrarian nation. Mao wanted to change this. He envisioned the poor farmers of China uniting to remake the country into a vast, modern industrial superpower, similar to the rise of the neighboring Soviets, whom Mao drew inspiration.

His program, called the great leap forward, involved taking millions of farmers off their fields into industrial collectives. Farmers where told to melt their ploughs and steel scrap into the tools of industry to make steel.

But obviously there is a problem, as a lifetime farmer doesn’t know anything about making steel. And when you take everyone off of farming and turn them into workers in a field they know nothing about, both farming and steel making fail.

Since he diverted so many peasants to this industrial flop, there were not as many to working on the fields. China was always on the edge of famine, and this gave them firm push over.

As for the Cultural Revolution, he was trying to purge China of The Four Olds as these were seen to only further the exploitation of the classes. The Four Olds are old customs, old habits, old culture, and old ideas.

A lot of teachers were executed publicly, monks were humiliated in the streets, a great number of Kung Fu masters took to the hills or left China altogether. These were all seen as part of the Old China that the Cultural Revolution was meant to be burning off.

Using a traditional Japanese blade, 17-year-old Yamaguchi assassinates socialist politician Asanuma in Tokyo 1960

The photo was taken directly after Yamaguchi stabbed Asanuma and is seen here attempting a second stab though he is restrained before that happens. Otoya Yamaguchi was member of a right-wing ultranationalist Japanese group. Inejiro Asanuma was leader of the socialist party in Japan. He was unusual in postwar Japan for his forceful advocacy of socialism, and his support of the Chinese Communist Party was particularly controversial. Asanuma was assassinated during a televised political debate for the coming elections for the House of Representatives. While Asanuma spoke from the lectern at Tokyo’s Hibiya Hall, Yamaguchi rushed onstage and ran his wakizashi through Asanuma’s abdomen, killing him.

Otoya Yamaguchi was a member of a group which, among other things, wished to rid Japan of Western influence and restore Japan’s traditional culture. He chose a weapon that was fitting his purpose, and that meant getting up close and attacking with complete conviction, knowing full well that there was no way he would be getting away.

Less than three weeks after the assassination, while being held in a juvenile detention facility, Yamaguchi mixed a small amount of tooth paste with water and wrote on his cell wall: “Seven lives for my country. Long live His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor!” Yamaguchi then knotted strips of his bedsheet into a makeshift rope and used it to hang himself from a light fixture. The phrase “seven lives for my country” was a reference to the last words of 14th century samurai Kusunoki Masashige.
