What became of all the scrap metal from The Cold War? Believe it or not, a great deal of it ended up as training equipment in an outdoor gym on the island of Tuhev in the heart of Ukraine’s capital.
As far as gyms, it doesn’t get any more hardcore than this: we’re talking about ten square kilometers of large vehicle parts, rusted tank chains, pulleys, tractor tires, crank shafts, and marine salvage pieces, all welded into monstrous primitive strength machines, barbells, dumbbells and lifting benches (unpadded, of course) — and all free for anyone to use it.
The Ukrainian word Kachat means "to pump" an apt name.
