The Daily Man-Up: There Are No More Zero Days

(photo: @xangriffin)

Rule #1 – THERE ARE NO MORE ZERO DAYS

What’s a zero day? A zero day is when you don’t do a single fucking thing towards whatever dream or goal or want or whatever that you got going on. No more zeros. I’m not saying you gotta bust an essay out everyday, that’s not the point. The point I’m trying to make is that you have to make yourself, promise yourself, that the new SYSTEM you live in is a NON-ZERO system. Didnt’ do anything all fucking day and it’s 11:58 PM? Write one sentence. One pushup. Read one page of that chapter. One. Because one is non zero. You feel me? When you’re in the super vortex of being bummed your pattern of behaviour is keeping the vortex goin, that’s what you’re used to. Turning into productivity ultimate master of the universe doesn’t happen from the vortex. It happens from a massive string of CONSISTENT NON ZEROS. That’s rule number one. Do not forget.

Rule #2BE GRATEFUL TO THE 3 YOU’S.

Uh what? 3 me’s? That sounds like mumbo jumbo bullshit. News flash, there are three you’s homeslice. There’s the past you, the present you, and the future you. If you wanna love someone and have someone love you back, you gotta learn to love yourself, and the 3 you’s are the key. Be GRATEFUL to the past you for the positive things you’ve done. And do favours for the future you like you would for your best bro. Feeling like shit today? Stop a second, think of a good decision you made yesterday. Salad and tuna instead of Big Mac? THANK YOU YOUNGER ME. Was yesterday a nonzero day because you wrote 200 words (hey, that’s all you could muster)? THANK YOU YOUNGER ME. Saved up some coin over time to buy that sweet thing you wanted? THANK YOU. Second part of the 3 me’s is you gotta do your future self a favour, just like you would for your best fucking friend (no best friend? you do now. You got 2. It’s future and past you). Tired as hell and can’t get off reddit/videogames/interwebs? fuck you present self, this one’s for future me, i’m gonna rock out p90x Ab Ripper X for 17 minutes. I’m doing this one for future me. Alarm clock goes off and bed is too comfy? fuck you present self, this one’s for my best friend, the future me. I’m up and going for a 5 km run (or 25 meter run, it’s gotta be non zero). MAKE SURE YOU THANK YOUR OLD SELF for rocking out at the end of every.single.thing. that makes your life better. The cycle of doing something for someone else (future you) and thanking someone for the good in your life (past you) is key to building gratitude and productivity. Do not doubt me. Over time you should spread the gratitude to others who help you on your path.

Rule #3 – FORGIVE YOURSELF.

I mean it. Maybe you got all the know-how, money, ability, strength and talent to do whatever is you wanna do. But lets say you still didn’t do it. Now you’re giving yourself shit for not doing what you need to, to be who you want to. Heads up champion, being dissapointed in yourself causes you to be less productive. Tried your best to have a nonzero day yesterday and it failed? so what. I forgive you previous self. I forgive you. But today? Today is a nonzero masterpiece to the best of my ability for future self. This one’s for you future homes. Forgiveness man, use it. I forgive you. Say it out loud.

Rule #4EXERCISE AND BOOKS

That’s it. Pretty standard advice but when you exercise daily you actually get smarter. when you exercise you get high from endorphins (thanks body). when you exercise you clear your mind. when you exercise you are doing your future self a huge favour. Exercise is a leg on a three legged stool. Feel me? As for books, almost every fucking thing we’ve all ever thought of, or felt, or gone through, or wanted, or wanted to know how to do, or whatever, has been figured out by someone else. Get some books max. Post to reddit about not caring about yourself? Good first step! (nonzero day, thanks younger me for typing it out) You know what else you could do? Read 7 habits of highly successful people. Read “emotional intelligence”. Read “From good to great”. Read “thinking fast and slow”. Read books that will help you understand. Read the bodyweight fitness reddit and incorporate it into your workouts. (how’s them pullups coming?) Reading is the fucking warp whistle from Super Mario 3. It gets you to the next level that much faster.

That’s about it man. There’s so much more when it comes to how to turn nonzero days into hugely nonzero days, but that’s not your mission right now. Your mission is nonzero and forgiveness and favours. You got 36 essays due in 24 minutes and its impossible to pull off? Your past self let you down big time, but hey… I forgive you. Do as much as you can in those 24 minutes and then move on.

Professor Claims Virgin Mary Didn’t Give Consent to Being Impregnated

virgin mary consent

Dr. Eric Sprankle, a certified sex therapist and Associate Professor at Minnesota State University argued this week that the Virgin Mary did not consent to becoming pregnant with Jesus.

“The virgin birth story is about an all-knowing, all-powerful deity impregnating a human teen. There is no definition of consent that would include that scenario,” he wrote on Twitter.

A Twitter user named Tom Cleary responded with a biblical passage that contradicts Sprankel’s claim.

“Sorry. [Luke] 1 26:38 states clearly that the angel communicated God’s plan for Mary and in verse 38 she agreed. Whether you believe or disbelieve, it helps if you actually read the text,” Cleary wrote.

Sprankle refused to back down.

He argued, however, that the biblical God abused his authority and forced Mary to consent over fear of being punished.

“The biblical god regularly punished disobedience. The power difference (deity vs mortal) and the potential for violence for saying ‘no’ negates her ‘yes.’  To put someone in this position is an unethical abuse of power at best and grossly predatory at worst.”

6’2″ 220lbs Transgender Hannah Mouncey Is Dominating At Women’s World Handball Championship

Standing at six-foot-two and weighing-in at 220 pounds, male-to-female transgender handballer Hannah Mouncey is dominating at the women’s Asian Championships in Japan.

Before his transition to female in May 2016, Mousey played for the Australian men’s handball team.

According to Handbolls Kanalen, Mouncey scored four goals in a match against Kazakhstan on Friday and contributed a combined eight goals in matches against Japan and Iran.

“Australia defeated Iran by 29-24 and the result may turn out to be gold worth. If they finish in fifth place or better, Oceania is winning a World Cup through the Asian Championship. It also means that IHF will not have a wild card to share,” reports the Swedish outlet.

Due to Mouncey’s weight, height, and testosterone levels, he was barred from entering the Australian Football League, Women’s (AFLW) draft, last year. Mouncey wrote a piece for The Guardian in September blasting the AFL for their regulations. He noted specifically that the weight regulation is a form of “body shaming” and a blow to all women, transgender or not.

“My biggest concern is the fact that weight is being used as one of the key physical measures for possible exclusion. Forget the fact that in a game that has such an emphasis on endurance and speed, being heavy is not necessarily an advantage and think about the message it sends to women and girls about their bodies: if you’re too big, you can’t play. That is incredibly dangerous and backward,” Mouncey said.

But in May of this year, Mouncey made his debut for Melbourne at the Oceanian Open Club Championship, before eventually shipping off to Japan for the Asian Championships.

Mouncey has been vocal about the alleged oppression he’s endured as a transgender athlete in Australia, since he wasn’t allowed to play in leagues with biological women due to his testosterone levels and other physical factors.

Loyal Dog Waits Nearly a Month For Owners' Return to Home Destroyed by Camp Fire

A dog that survived the catastrophic Camp Fire in Northern California reportedly waited at the ruins of its property for nearly a month until its owner returned.

K9 Paw Print Rescue took to Facebook to share the heart-warming story, writing: “Madison’s parents were unable to get home to him when the Camp Fire spread. They hoped and prayed he would be OK.

“When they finally got clearance to go back to the lot where their house once stood….Madison was waiting there for them as if he were protecting his former home. Never give up!”

Shayla Sullivan, a rescue worker who has helped looked after animals caught up in the tragic fires, commented on the post to say that she was keeping an eye out for Madison and his brother Miguel, who had been reported missing by their owner.

Shayla said the outdoor guard dog was apprehensive and kept his distance. Sullivan left food and water for him regularly until Gaylord got back on Wednesday. She also helped locate Madison’s brother Miguel, another Anatolian shepherd that was taken to a shelter 85 miles away in the confusing aftermath of the wildfire.

The dogs reunited Friday when Gaylord came back to the property with Miguel and brought Madison his favorite treat: a box of Wheat Thin crackers.

Gaylord told news station ABC10 she couldn’t ask for a better animal.

“Imagine the loyalty of hanging in in the worst of circumstances and being here waiting,” she said.

“Their instinctual job is to watch the flocks and we’re part of them,” Gaylord said about her dogs. “It’s a comforting feeling.”

The  Camp Fire started on November 8 and tore through more than 150,000 acres of land before it was finally put on December 6.

Thousands of people were forced to flee their homes as hundreds of firefighter worked tirelessly to get the flames under control.

Eighty-five people lost their lives in the fire and three injured firefighters were injured.

The Daily Man-Up: How To Fight Your Desires To Find True Freedom

0
0

(photo: @jamie_fenn)

Seek freedom and become captive of your desires. Seek discipline and find your liberty. ~ Frank Herbert

Freedom to many is the right to do whatever you want. It’s the right and the ability to follow your latest whim, wish, and your present desire. When you seek this kind of freedom you’re ruled by the wish, whim, and desire. Your urges own you, you don’t own them.

Our desires change. They’re frivolous. They seem to have a mind of their own and often come from a weaker part of us that doesn’t take our greater goals and dreams into account.

Our desires pull us away from our potential, when it’s discipline that brings us nearer to it.

It’s popular in our society to seek a kind of freedom that brings us further away from discipline. It’s a freedom from responsibility and work and a freedom to live a life that serves no one but ourselves.

We see this kind of freedom applauded by social groups, self-help authors, and ideologies that see happiness not as something we work to create, but something we gain only apart from the society that we reside within. It’s a freedom filled with sandy beaches and weed, hippie headdresses and odd hours.

The freedom from discipline ends up bringing you a freedom from accomplishment. It brings you to a point of dependence of some kind, which cannot be true freedom. It’s a kind of freedom that ignores the sacrifices of men and women before you that have fought for your right to be an irresponsible dependent.

It’s the freedom of ignorance. It’s a socialist’s freedom. You will still rely on roads and running water, yet you will not do your part to pay for them.

It’s the ignorance of sacrifice, however, that opposes true freedom, which must take into account that life, no matter where you’re born or what you’re born in to, is a gift. It’s a gift that must be repaid, maybe within your community, your country, your society and world, or simply by doing the best you can with what you have and the time you have while you’re here.

This is where discipline becomes the sole ingredient necessary for true freedom.

Without discipline you cannot make the most of the time you’re given. You cannot rise early and work hard. You cannot differentiate between the good and bad desires that come into your thoughts daily.

Egypt Investigating Man And Woman Photographed Having Sex On Great Pyramid

0
0

Egyptian officials would like a word with a Danish photographer who allegedly photographed himself having sex with a woman atop one of the two pyramids that surround Egypt’s Great Pyramid of Giza.

Andreas Hvid, who describes himself as an artist, urban explorer, and photographer, managed to get a shot of himself and a companion doing the deed at some point in November 2018, as he initially wrote on his website.

Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities issued a statement Saturday saying the incident “violates public morality.” The ministry has requested that an investigation is launched by the Attorney General, the statement said.

“One hundred percent it is photoshopped,” Zahi Hawass, an archaeologist who is the former Egyptian Minister of Antiquities and former director general of Giza Plateau, told NBC News. “There is no way any one can enter the Pyramids area at night.”

In reference to images of the couple on the pyramid, he added: “Those are not the stones of the big Pyramid. They’re too small.”

Hvid specializes in taking photos from daring heights and his portfolio includes a number of nudes taken on rooftops or cranes overlooking cities and landscapes across the globe.

His latest romp, documented by photos and video, features him having sex with a woman on top of the Great Pyramid at night with another pyramid in the background.

Hvid has removed all but one of the images from his website and social media accounts, but copies have been reposted.

Climbing the pyramids and being at the site after hour is prohibited.

Hvid has not been arrested and it’s unclear what punishment, if any, he could face. Egypt is a mostly conservative country with a Muslim majority.

People convicted of performing indecent acts in public can face up to a year in prison and fines, according to Egyptian law.

An Egyptian actress recently faced up to five years in prison for public obscenity after showing up at the closing ceremony of the Cairo International Film Festival wearing a see-through dress. The charges against Rania Youssef were dropped after she made a public apology for her choice of attire.

Ashraf Mohi, director of the Giza Plateau said the first step in the investigation will be to determine if the footage is real. Penalties vary depending on whether any damage was done to the pyramid, he said.

Russian Priest Rebuked After Flaunting Gucci Lifestyle On Instagram

0

Russia’s Orthodox Church is investigating one of its priests over a series of Instagram photographs in which he is seen flaunting luxury clothing brands.

Vyacheslav Baskakov, a priest in the Tver region near Moscow, sparked controversy late last week with a series of photographs featuring expensive clothes including a Louis Vuitton signature handbag and Gucci shoes. The Instagram account that hosted the pictures has since been taken down, but not before social media users widely distributed the images.

Church leaders have chided Baskakov for “poor taste” and said a disciplinary committee had been convened to “bring [him] to his senses”.

“I hope this will bring this shepherd to account,” said Alexander Volkov, the spokesman for the Russian Orthodox patriarch Kirill. “The life of a priest cannot be divided between the personal and public and no clergyman can act like a priest in a church from the morning until lunch and then be whoever he wants from lunch until evening.”

Kirill himself suffered a similar scandal in 2012 after he was caught in a meeting wearing a Breguet watch worth an estimated $30,000 (£24,000). His aides airbrushed the luxury timepiece out of a photograph but failed to erase the watch face’s reflection in a polished wooden table. The church apologised.

Baskakov apologised on Sunday for his photographs, saying he would “suffer penance and shut down the Instagram, since I can’t behave myself humbly and appropriately”.

But he denied owning the items from Gucci and Louis Vuitton, saying he had taken most of the photographs in stores. Sometimes, he said, he sewed expensive-looking buckles on to his modest footwear.

“So they’re inexpensive shoes, but they look festive,” he wrote.

Real Life Rambo: The Story Of Roy Benavidez

0
0

roy benavidez

Roy Benavidez was born in 1935 near Cuero, Texas, to impoverished sharecroppers of Mexican and Yaqui Indian ancestry. Both parents died of tuberculosis before his eighth birthday. He and his younger brother, Roger, along with eight cousins, were raised by their grandfather, an aunt and uncle, in El Campo.

As a young man growing up in humble surroundings, Benavidez shined shoes at the local bus station, labored on farms in Texas and Colorado, and worked in a tire shop. Regularly insulted as “a dumb Mexican,” he dropped out of school in the seventh grade.

Benavidez enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard in 1952 before entering the regular Army in 1955. Hilaria “Lala” Coy became his wife in 1959, the same year he completed airborne training and joined the 82nd Airborne Division. Benavidez stepped on a land mine while serving his first tour in Vietnam as an advisor in 1965 and was evacuated to the United States. The doctors at Brooke Army Medical Center claimed he would never walk again,so they prepared to discharge him from the military. But how was a crippled minority, who was also a high-school dropout, going to support himself and his wife?

So Benavidez did the only thing he could. At night, when the doctors and nurses left, he tried to wiggle his toes till he felt them again. Then he would use his elbows and chin to crawl toward the wall next to his bed. Then he’d try to get off the bed by himself.

In July 1966, the man whom the medical experts said couldn’t possibly walk again did just that.

He returned to active service and trained at Fort Bragg, N.C., for the elite Studies and Observations Group. Still suffering from unrelenting back pain, Benavidez returned for a second tour in Vietnam in January 1968. He was assigned to Detachment B56, 5th Special Forces Group Airborne, First Special Forces at Loc Ninh.

A devout Catholic, Benavidez was attending prayer services on May 22, 1968 when he heard a desperate radio plea, “Get us out of here! For God’s sake, get us out!” The cry for assistance came from a 12-man Special Forces Recon team. They had stumbled upon an entire infantry battalion of the Vietnam People’s Army (NVA) of perhaps 1,000 men.

Three choppers had already attempted a rescue but were driven back by small arms and anti-aircraft fire. Benavidez did not have orders to go, but with a medical bag in one hand and a knife in the other, he jumped into the bay of a Huey revving up for another rescue attempt.

Intense enemy fire in the area kept the chopper from landing. Hovering 10 feet off the ground, Benavidez made the sign of the cross across his chest and leaped off the chopper. The long-suffering recon unit was 75 yards away. Benavidez began the deadly gauntlet, fell when an AK-47 round pierced his right leg, sprang back to his feet but was immediately knocked off his feet again by a hand grenade that ripped his back and neck. Those initial wounds were the first of 37 separate bullet, shrapnel, and bayonet injuries he would receive during the next six hours of violent combat.

Benavidez mustered the valor to rise again and run under fire to the crippled 12-man squad. He found four dead and eight others badly wounded. He began passing out ammo to the soldiers still able to fight; he injected morphine into the wounded; he called in air strikes, then was hit again. Bleeding and in pain, Benavidez dragged dead and injured men to the hovering chopper while providing cover fire with an assault rifle he found on the ground. The chopper moved to recover even more bodies. The enemy fire increased.

Benavidez made another mad dash to retrieve classified documents of radio codes and call signals still secreted on the body of the dead team leader. As he seized the documents, Benavidez took another round in the stomach and additional shrapnel fragments in his back. Coughing up blood, he attempted to return to the chopper only to see the pilot receive a mortal wound. The Huey crashed to the ground.

Undaunted, Benavidez pulled wounded from the overturned chopper, called in more airstrikes, and directed the fire from helicopter gunships. Blood trickled into his eyes, temporarily blinding his vision. In the midst of deadly fire, Benavidez set up a defensive perimeter and continued to rally injured soldiers to fight on. He later recollected, “I made the sign of the cross across my chest so often my arms looked like an airplane propeller.”

Before the second chopper came in, Benavidez was wounded several more times. Urging the injured to fight on and keep praying, he slung a wounded soldier over his shoulder and scurried for the chopper. En route to the Huey, an enemy soldier jumped up and clubbed Benavidez from behind with the butt of a rifle; Benavidez and the wounded soldier fell to the earth. Bayoneted in both arms, Benavidez managed to grasp the bayonet which gouged his hand but gave him enough time to pull out a knife and kill the enemy soldier. Now with a shattered jaw, both arms lacerated, a slashed hand, bullet holes and shrapnel in his body, Benavidez assisted the last remaining injured man onto the Huey — their Vietnamese interpreter.

The rescued soldiers inside the Huey pulled Benavidez’s battered body aboard the chopper. Blood pooled, then flowed out the bay door. The flight back to Loc Ninh was a 20-minute ordeal with Benavidez holding his intestines in his hands during the entire trip.

When they landed the wounded were unloaded and examined one by one, it had turned out that Benavidez had even loaded three dead enemy soldiers into the helicopter in case they had classified materials

At Loc Ninh, Benavidez was triaged and pronounced dead. As the doctor attempted to zip up the body bag, Benavidez could only marshal enough strength to do one thing to prove he was still alive: he spit in the doctor’s face.

The six-hour heroic achievement of 32-year-old Roy Benavidez was one of the most astonishing feats of the Vietnam War. He was hospitalized for over a year yet refused to accept any praise, proclaiming, “No, that was my duty.” Benavidez’s commander thought this courageous wounded warrior would not live long enough to accept the Medal of Honor due to an extensive processing procedure, thus he only recommended the Distinguished Service Cross. It would take years for the wrong to be corrected.

On Feb. 24, 1981, President Ronald Reagan presented Raul “Roy” Perez Benavidez the Medal of Honor. He accepted our nation’s highest military award with two pieces of shrapnel still lodged in his heart and a punctured lung.

Benavidez’s suggestion to young people: “An education is the key to success. Bad habits and bad company will ruin you."
