I must not fear.

Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.

Only I will remain.

19 Year Old Model Sells Her Virginity To Arab Businessman For Nearly $3 Million

An American woman has just become a millionaire after selling her virginity online to the highest bidder in a controversial auction.

Giselle is a 19-year-old American model who put her virginity for sale on the website cinderella-escorts.com.

The websites specialises in ‘International High-Class Escorts’. The website also has a section where women can sell their virginity to the highest bidder.

The website reports that the highest bidder was a businessman from Abu Dhabi of €2.5 million ($2.95 million). This was then followed by a Hollywood actor then a Russian politician.

Giselle wrote about her feelings during the auction:

“I am happy to have decided to sell my virginity through Cinderella Escorts. I would never have dreamt that the bid would rise so high and we would have reached 2.5 million euros. This is a dream come true.

“I think the trend to sell your virginity is a form of emancipation and I am shocked about people who are “against” that a woman is allowed to sell HER! virginity.

“In other words, these people want to tell you what to do with your body as a woman, but they accuse somebody who is selling it of being against emancipation. This is absurd.”

She intends to use the money to pay for her tuition and to travel the world.

As for the logistics of the arrangement, the model is set to meet the unnamed businessman in Germany. Cinderella Escorts said it will provide a security guard to accompany her there.

A spokesperson for the agency said, “We organize the hotel, stay close to the hostel as a contact person in case of problems and the girl can cancel the meeting at any time.”

Cinderalla Escorts first caught public attention in 2016, when 18-year-old Russian model Allexandra Khefren sold her virginity for around $2.6 million.

Run by 27-year-old German Jan Zakobielski, the website offers prostitution services and claims to have several adult film stars on board.

Twenty percent of each deal goes as a fee to the website.

When it comes to the section regarding virgins, the agency assures bidders that the women have been “inspected” by a doctor to confirm they have never had sex.

Zakobielski told Forbes the women are also assessed by a psychiatrist, who confirms they are mature enough to make the decision.

He has previously said his business is “highly successful.”

“No-one makes these young women do anything they don’t want to do. They have their own minds and their own opinions on sexuality.”

It is worth noting that prostitution is legal in Germany.

Harvey Weinstein and Uma Thurman greet each other at the Kill Bill: Volume 2 premier in 2004

When previously asked about Harvey she said

“I don’t have a tidy soundbite for you, because I have learned, I am not a child. And I have learned that when I’ve spoken in anger, I usually regret the way I express myself,” she said.

“So, I’ve been waiting to feel less angry, and when I’m ready, I’ll say what I have to say.”

She has been holding this for a long time, what a time and way to let it all out. Precise and brutal.

Uma posted to her instagram today with the following caption:

H A P P Y T H A N K S G I V I N G I am grateful today, to be alive, for all those I love, and for all those who have the courage to stand up for others. I said I was angry recently, and I have a few reasons, #metoo, in case you couldn’t tell by the look on my face. I feel it’s important to take your time, be fair, be exact, so… Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! (Except you Harvey, and all your wicked conspirators – I’m glad it’s going slowly – you don’t deserve a bullet) -stay tuned Uma Thurman

What’s It Like To Witness An Execution?

$
0
0

I wrote the following description of having just witnessed an execution while in the passenger seat of a car driving away from the prison. I wanted it to be as accurate and detailed as possible…

I came to Oklahoma to witness a killing, a homicide in fact.

At a microphone Debbie Huggins fights tears and with a strong southern drawl says slowly, emphatically: “What we did to him today was much kinder than what he did to my dad.”

“Him” refers to Michael Selsor and “what” to the murder of Clayton Chandler, a clerk shot six times during a gas station robbery in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Selsor pulled the trigger even after Chandler had complied and volunteered the loot.

“In 1975 I never would have thought that it would take 37 years for justice,” Huggins says.

Today’s justice was delivered about half an hour before Huggins approached the microphone; it is why I am here.

There are few acts graver than when a government takes the life of one of its own citizens. Executions often get a lot of coverage in the US, when there is something controversial about the case or enough people believe the condemned might be innocent. These scenarios attract media attention and fuel vigils. This was not the case with Michael Selsor. Everyone agreed that he did it, including him. The reporters who cover Selsor’s execution will focus on Huggins and her family. Perhaps you cannot blame them. The only interview Selsor ever granted was to me.

Even though executions are conducted on behalf of the citizens of the state, very few are allowed to witness it: families of the condemned and their victims, lawyers, law enforcement, and journalists. This is why I felt a responsibility to witness Selsor’s end and then to report it as dispassionately and honestly as I could. The following attempts such an account.

About an hour before Huggins gives her statement, I am led from a makeshift media center to the notorious H Unit, home of Oklahoma’s death row. A pat down ensures our escorts that I carry no possessions other than the clothes on my back. They give me paper and a pen so I can take notes. I am joined by five other reporters. We maneuver through a set of gates that open to a large passageway. The walls and floor are made of smooth concrete. The passage feels stark, modern, like a secret missile silo – and incongruous with this century-old prison famous for inmate rodeos and executions.

Eventually we turn through a large yellow door into the death chamber’s viewing room. I have been here before, but then the space was empty and part of the tour – now it is ready for business.

A handful of prison officials and guards are waiting for us in the viewing room, a narrow rectangle about four times as long as it is wide. A long series of windows to my right are covered by drawn blinds. Two rows of 12 brown metal folding chairs – the kind dragged out of a storage closet at a school picnic – are lined up. I am the first reporter in the room and told to go to the end of the second row and take a seat.

As I sidestep down the row I notice for the first time another set of windows on the left side of the room. The tinted panes conceal the identity of those on the other side. I suppose the setup is not unlike a wedding with two families to attend to and keep separated. The original victim, Clayton Chandler, is represented by an unknown number of family members behind the dark glass. It is hot in the room – at least 90 degrees and rising as people file in. Movement behind the opaque windows catches the light and my eye; at least two people are fanning themselves with white paper. Chandler’s family members must already be in place, watching us nervously find our seats.

Three lawyers in dark suits representing Selsor enter next and sit directly in front of me. Selsor’s family follows. His son wears a grey t-shirt, shorts and a military-short haircut. Tattoos cover his neck and arms. Selsor’s sister, with a shock of blonde hair, looks tired. Her bright blue, short-sleeved shirt contrasts a suntanned face, wizened beyond her years. A box of cheap tissues rests in the son’s chair, courtesy of the state. Once Selsor’s family is settled, a small contingent of law enforcement file in, including Jeff Jordan, who investigated Chandler’s murder as a rookie homicide detective. He is now Tulsa’s police chief.

A cacophony of banging echoes throughout the prison. We have been warned not to be alarmed by the noise – it is how inmates say their goodbyes.

Selsor is respected on death row. He is seemingly regarded as a serious and contemplative individual who became an asset of sorts to prison inmates and staff alike – though officials always caveat the sentiment with a reminder that his crime was inexcusably wrong and such actions must bear consequences. As the run guy, a job given to the toughest of the condemned, Selsor made deliveries to other cells and kept fellow inmates in line. When school children visited the prison, Selsor played a regular part in the tour. From behind bars he shared his life lesson about the consequences of one’s actions with the children.

The appointed time nears and the banging becomes rhythmic – quick at first, but slowing now to a steady, dirge-like pace.

The director of Oklahoma prisons, Justin Jones, who has twice appeared on Fault Lines, enters. The yellow door shuts behind him. Rather than taking a chair, he is handed a phone, a hotline to the governor’s office. Though not far from me, I cannot hear what he is saying. Jones hangs the receiver up, picks up a different phone connected with the execution chamber and tells them to proceed.

It is exactly 6 pm local time. The curtain goes up as guards raise the mini-blinds inside the execution chamber. Selsor’s family in front of me gasps at the sight of him. He is strapped to the bed with his arms padlocked down and covered in a sheet up to his chest. Selsor’s pinched eyebrows convey a look between fear and guilt.

The son waves to his father for what turns out to be the last time and reaches for the tissues. The son and sister begin to cry. Selsor lifts his head as much as he can and turns toward his small audience: “My son, my sister, I love you ’til I see you again next time. Be good. Eric, [Selsor’s lawyer] keep up the struggle.” His eyes scan the viewing room: “I’ll be waiting at the gates of heaven for you. I hope the rest of you make it there as well.”

He looks to the prison official standing over him and says: “I’m ready.” Relaxing back to the bed, he turns his head to the side and focuses on his son.

Though we cannot see it, we all know what is happening now. Two intravenous lines run from Selsor’s arms to two holes in a wall about three feet behind his head. From a hidden room, three executioners each press a plunger sending lethal doses into his veins: one with pentobarbital, another with vecuronium bromide and a third with potassium chloride. The executioners are each paid $300 in cash, so no paper trail leads to their identity.

With a tilted head still looking at his son, Selsor’s gaze begins to fade, his eyelids half closing. A final breath exits his body with a visible puff from his lips. His body stills, eyes half open and locked on his son. It is roughly 6:03 pm.

The next three minutes pass painfully slowly. No one moves in the death chamber or viewing room. I hear barely perceptible sounds of crying from the row in front of me. A medical examiner in the chamber approaches the bed, checks for signs of life and pronounces Michael Selsor dead at 6:06 pm.

We solemnly return to the media center. Huggins holds a press conference and tells us that the execution did not bring closure or the kind of justice it seems she was seeking, but it is easy to see her relief from the death of Selsor. The ultimate boogeyman in her mind was finally gone.

In time a death certificate will be issued from the state of Oklahoma. For cause of death, it will say Selsor died from a homicide. Though it took nearly four decades to find its target, it is clear now that the trigger Selsor pulled that fateful day in 1975 ended not only Chandler’s life, but Selsor’s own as well.

Logitech M510 Wireless Mouse
$14.24 | List Price: $39.99

I am a big fan of this mouse and have been using it for over two years. In that time, I have only had to replace the batteries (2xAA) once, so the lack of a rechargeable feature is not bad. The mouse has a good feel, not quite as contoured as a gaming mouse, but enough to make it comfy for extended use. The contouring is symmetrical, so lefties can enjoy it as well, though of course the buttons are on the left side for a right-handed thumb. Mouse wheel is a non-smooth scrolling wheel, which is actually my preferred type (sometimes when gaming, you just want to scroll through two weapons, not just spin the wheel and hope it lands on the correct one).

2.5 years later, the mouse is still working well, with only occasional cleanings of the top and bottom. Buttons are still as responsive as before (as far as I can tell), including side buttons, mouse wheel, and side-scrolling on the mousewheel. Range on the mouse is good, and I can easily use it from the other room without difficulty. Response time on the mouse is good, and I have not yet experienced any delays while using it. Have not yet tried to hook another device up to the unified receiver though.

The logitech software has some good customizability features, including tweaking the functionality differently for different programs. For instance, in my browser, I have the buttons switch tabs, go back or forward a page, etc., while in the media player, I set the buttons to play/pause, rewind, go to the next item in the playlist, etc., making it a pretty effective remote control. The software runs constantly in the background, but isn’t too bloated (averages about 3 MB of RAM usage, 0% of CPU usage).
Overall, a great budget multi-purpose mouse with a few good features added in.

bose SoundSport Wireless Headphones

These headphones are fantastic. They sound even better than my Bose wired headphones, with great bass and clarity, a nice full sound. The battery life is great, I can easily use throughout the day without charging them.

Samsung 40-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV $319.99

A great purchase for the price point in my opinion. A Samsung 43″ 4K, HDR, Smart TV for around $600. Despite being a Samsung, I was cautious about what to expect. Surely something was going to bother me, but so far this TV is amazing.

It goes without saying that the picture quality is excellent. This is my first experience with HDR and it’s stunning the difference it makes with a better contrast ratio and color accuracy. Pair that with increasing the resolution to 4k (and having media that is native 4k of course) and it’s gorgeous.

Built-in speakers usually don’t impress me at all, especially being a Sennheiser headset user. That said, the speakers with this TV are surprisingly good across the whole range without distortion or vibrating the panel.

Vitamix 5200 Blender
$298.95 | List: $549.99

I’ve been considering buying a Vitamix for several years. I’ve been through 2 other blenders which were just over $100 and both broke. One had a motor issue and the other started leaking at the base and I couldn’t find a replacement. A few of our friends swear by Vitamix so we decided to take the plunge. It was a HUGE investment for me, but I absolutely love it.

I bought it mainly to make green smoothies. Totally liquifies the whole fruit or veggie. No gritty or chunky taste.

AmazonBasics High-Back Executive Chair
$79.99 | List: $109.99

This chair is incredible. It is extremely comfortable considering I work 11-12 hours a day at my computer. The quality is great. Its a good size chair to. Not too big and not too small. The cushions are really comfortable and supportive at the same time. Roomy on the sides, so I don’t feel like a sardine. The back allows my head to rest on it completely while my previous chair’s back hit me where my neck meets my skull. Bottom line is if you’re looking for a chair that can give comfort and support for 11-12 hour work day then this is the chair for you.

Sonos Play:1 Compact Wireless Speaker
$149.00 | List: $199.99

These speakers (I bought 2) were recommended to me by several different people who have them in their homes. I hooked them up last night and I am really impressed at the sound they put out! It is clear and crisp but also has good bass to it, nothing overpowering. I have them in two different room and they take up almost no space at all. Everything is controlled through the app on your phone and while its not the simplest app to use I got it all working pretty quickly. I will probably end up buying a couple more in the future to have them in more rooms, really nice speakers!

Anker 24W Dual USB Car Charger
$6.44

I’d been pretty frustrated with the lack of quality cigarette-lighter car chargers over the years. Our phones are using up so much battery these days that often the car chargers can’t put out enough power to keep up with the amount of battery being used, and the end result is a very slow almost trickle charge whenever you plug in a phone in the car. And the other thing I find is that often these chargers are very poorly made and will break down over time. I can safely say that this Anker charger has been a game-changer for me on both accounts. The iQ technology that they’ve developed with this car charger allows your phone to get up to 4.8 amps of power if you’re charging 1 device, and 2.4 amps if you’re charging 2. I mostly use this charger with just one device (my Samsung Galaxy S5) and I always get a reliable, fast charge out of this charger. I’ve owned the product for several months now and it has shown no signs of degradation, either. Very reasonably priced and a wonderful product.

“Done is better than perfect.” — Scott Allen

The root of procrastination is the fear of not doing a good job. Perfection kills creativity. Don’t fuss over details as you move forward. What matters is that you get something done.

The real world doesn’t reward perfectionists. It rewards people who get things done. Give yourself time in your life to wonder what’s possible and to make even the slightest moves in that direction.

You will screw up in the process but it’s okay. Don’t beat yourself up for making a mistake or making a wrong choice. It will only lead to self destructive behavior.

It’s okay to screw up as long as you are willing to try again. Non- comformists and originals screw up a lot. But they move on, knowing that at some point, the breakthrough will happne. No matter how many mistakes you make, or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying.

Creativity flourishes when you don’t seek perfection but focus on getting stuff done. What you do matters, not what you think or say or plan. And doesn’t have to be perfect. The real world rewards those who create stuff and get things done. Give yourself space to think and wonder. And don’t be afraid of what might happen.

Creating is the result of thinking like walking. Left foot, problem. Right foot, solution. Repeat until you arrive. Give yourself time in your life to wonder what is possible and to make even the slightest moves in that direction.

Neo-Nazi Furries Are Now A Thing

$
0

FURRIES are no stranger to controversy, with members often labelled as perverse fetishists for dressing up in animal costumes, which dictate their role-playing “fursona”

Members of the obscure subculture often defend themselves by saying their celebration of anthropomorphic animal characters with human personalities and characteristics is nothing more than playful escapism.

While defending their community from outsider criticism is nothing new, there is now a fresh threat to the culture coming from within its own ranks.

It appears subculture, which has long been associated with gay and left-wing beliefs, is now being infiltrated by right-wing extremists known as “alt-furries”.

The alt-furry movement started as a joke on Twitter, with right-leaning members sharing pro-Trump, furry-themed memes using the #AltFurries hashtag.

What started as the promotion of satirical policies such as a ban on “species mixing”, soon became much more serious as the white supremacist agenda started to creep into real world furry events.

Junuis said he wasn’t worried when one forum group attempted to find his personal information and release it online, but Junius holds genuine concerns over the growing number of furries vulnerable to recruitment by these white supremacists.

“Nazis are looking for these same types of alienated white dudes,” he told Newsweek. “These people just want to hurt and incite — and are beginning to take their trolling offline.”

The emergence of the alt-furries has been troubling for the culture, which prides itself on being inclusive to those with niche gender identities and odd social quirks.

A goat named Dionysius was recently banned from a convention in Philadelphia after he spent $100 to commission artwork of his “fursona” launching Junius and two other furries out of a helicopter.

Dionysius feels his banishment was an over-reaction from “social justice warriors,” especially given that his artwork was made in response to left-wing furries threatening to punch “Nazi furs.”

How does a ‘shill’ for an organization operate online?

Former PR worker here, 99% of our job is to convince people that something that is fucking them over is actually good for them. The whole concept of ‘shills’ has somehow became a conspiracy theory when in reality it’s just PR workers who are paid by a company to defend their product/service. My last job was defending fracking.

Anytime a post containing keywords was submitted to a popular website we where notified and it was our job to just list off talking points and debate the most popular comments. Fracking was an easy one to defend because you could paint people as anti-science if they where against it. The science behind fracking is sound and if done properly is safe, so you just focus on this point. You willfully ignore the fact that fracking is done by people who almost never do it properly and are always looking to cut corners.

Your talking points usually contain branching arguments if people try to debate back. For example my next point would be to bring up that these companies are regulated so they couldn’t cut corners or they would be fined, all the while knowing that these agencies are either underfunded or have been captured by the very industry they are trying to regulate.

The final talking point, if someone called you out on all your counterpoints, was to simply try to paint them as a wackjob. Suggest they are crazy for thinking agencies who are suppose to protect them have been bought and paid for. Bring up lizard people to muddy the waters. A lot of people will quickly distance themselves from something if it is accused of being a conspiracy theory, and a lot of them are stupid enough that you can convince them that believing businesses conspiring to break the law to gain profit is literally the same as believing in aliens and bigfoot.

Just to clarify I am not an expert in the field of fracking, I am just a PR worker who worked on a fracking campaign and used it as an example. I got into a few heated debates about fracking in replies to this comment and some things I said might be wrong because as I said I am not an expert. I don’t want this to take away from the actual point of this comment which is to make people aware of PR workers and how they try to sway online discussions.

How do people let themselves get morbidly obese?

I’m unhappy, but I’m in great shape. Eating makes me less unhappy. It makes me feel secure. Satisfied. I’m in shape so I can afford to eat a little bit more.

Now I’m 5 pounds heavier than normal. No big deal. I could lose that much in a couple weeks if I wanted to. Nothing to be alarmed about. No reason to worry. No immediate need to change.

Now I’m 15 pounds overweight. How did that happen? Okay maybe I should try cutting back a little. I’ll start tomorrow. This is the last time I eat unhealthily. No, this time. Okay this time for sure. Now I am doing so well, I’ll just reward myself this once. Or twice. Or five times.

What?? I gained more weight?! What is going on??? What is wrong with me? Now I’m unhappy and I’m fat. I have to change. I’m putting my foot down. No more junk food. No more huge portions. No more soda.

God this sucks. I wish I could eat like I normally do. But it will all be worth it when I’m back to my norm- what?! I’ve lost only 2 pounds in the past month?? But I’ve been utterly miserable! This is too hard. This is impossible. Why should I even try?

Now I’m back to my bad eating habits. Still unhappy and gaining weight, but at least I’m not as miserable as I was when I was dieting. Oh look, I’ve gained 15 more pounds this month. As if it matters at this point.

Now I’m fatter than I’ve ever been. And sadder than I’ve ever been.

Have you ever been on a skateboard going down a huge, steep hill? There comes a point where you know you are going too fast and that if you jump off the board you’re gonna get hurt. But your speed is still increasing. The longer you wait, the worse it will be. But there is a thought in the back of your mind that maybe, just maybe, if you wait long enough and ignore the problem it will sort itself out. Instead of confronting the problem, you abandon responsibility. You let Jesus take the wheel.

So now I’m at that point. I know that in order to get my life back to normal will be complete and utter hell. But if I wait longer, it will be even more difficult. But what about a third option? Maybe being fat isn’t all that bad. Maybe instead of making my happiness contingent on being healthy I can just choose to be happy while ignoring my weight. I can have my cake and eat it too!

Now I’m morbidly obese and trying my best to pretend I’m happy. It hurts to move. I can’t properly bathe myself. I smell bad, I can’t clean my house. I don’t go out. I don’t do anything. The only thing i can do is eat. At this point, making a change would be worse than hell. There is no way I can get back to normal. Why even try?

What’s it like to sink to crushing depths inside a submarine?

Reaching crush depth wouldn’t be a slow crushing. Once the first deformations appear in the pressure hull, the whole thing caves very very fast, likely over the course of a couple seconds at most, depending on the pressure when it finally gives (44psi per hundred feet, at 1800 ft would yield almost 800psi, that’s a lot of pressure, and a massive release of energy once the hull finally gives.).

The strength of the hull comes from its shape more than material strength (though that does play a massive factor).

What feels slow, and would feel like an eternity, would be everything that leads up to crush depth.

Well before you reached crush depth, you’d know you were doomed. You’d be able fight the ship for a while, trying to restore hydraulics for control surfaces, high pressure air to blow out the ballast tanks, fighting to manually close ballast tank vents if they’ve been pushed out of position, trying to restore propulsion any way you can, fighting the fire that may have destroyed your battery and filled your world with chlorine gas and smoke. All this activity and rush feels fast, it may be 15 minutes, it may be 2 hours, but all it does is give you hope. Then when you’re exhausted and everybody is looking around in a moment of calm, the last battle lanterns will fail and you’ll spend the rest of your life in a darkness you can’t possibly have imagined until that moment. You hear a lot of creaking and groaning, growing louder and more insistent over the course of a few minutes. Suddenly, you feel, more than hear, a terrible rending of metal, and your 14 psi world becomes damn near 800 in barely a few seconds, and you never hear anything again.

I’m a submariner, I think about this every day.
