Anton Kusters Lived With The Japanese Yakuza For Two Years, Here Are Some Of The Photos He Took
Through 10 months of negotiations with the Shinseikai, my brother Malik and I became one of the only westerners ever to be granted this kind of access to the closed world of Japanese organized crime.
With a mix of photography, film, writing and graphic design, I try to share not only their complex relationship to Japanese society, but also to show the personal struggle of being forced to live in two different worlds at the same time; worlds that often have conflicting morals and values. It turns out not to be a simple ‘black’ versus ‘white’ relationship, but most definitely one with many, many, many shades of grey.

Attention Gentlemen! You Need This Recipe In Your Arsenal Of Awesomeness
Clockwise from top- Sourdough loaf (round) Horseradish mustard, shallots, two rib-eyes, crimini mushrooms (young portabellas) You will also need- a little butter for sauteing, a deep saucepan, a pan for broiling, parchment paper, heavy-duty string, tinfoil, thin cutting board or similar object, weights.
cut up the mushrooms and shallots into 1/4 inch chunks.
Sauté them both in a little butter until cooked through
Salt and pepper, then broil the rib eyes 5-7 minutes per side (ovens will vary, so keep a close watch)
Cut off the top from the sourdough loaf, and pull out excess bread
Tuck in the first rib-eye, then add the cooked mushroom mixture in a generous layer.
Cover with the mustard, the inside of the loaf top too
Fit the top back on in the best position
Wrap up in a double layer of parchment paper and secure it with the string. Lighter for size reference. Next wrap it with tin foil.
Using your thin cutting board or similar object, pile the weights on top and leave 6 hours to overnight
